How to clean up wet sand residue

Post by tzyoung on December 29th 2007, 12:46 am

Here's a little tip to make detailing your new paint job a bit easier.

Save all of your dirty tack cloths from the painting process. They are great for removing the paint dust deposits left over from wet sanding. They work better than a rag soaked with mineral spirits for removing the stuff. Here are a few pictures of it removing the dust from the wind shield.

Hope this helps as you guys are finishing up your paint or trying to clean the surfaces between coats

At first I literally used a whole tack cloth ($3) for one coat's wipedown. Then I learned how long they really do last. I cut a whole cloth into little 4x4 inch squares. One square is enough to wipe all the sanding dust off and then wipe the dust and pollen down just before painting. Thanks for the tip!
