I'm a believer

Post by tomchristopher71 on September 2nd 2011, 9:03 pm

I found this forum when I was searching for information on inexpensive DIY paint jobs. I am restoring a 1974 International Transtar (Semi Truck) and am in the process of custom painting it. I am an artist and wanted something unique that I could do myself and not have to pay a small fortune for a custom paint job. I was skeptical about rolling a paint job on a vehicle since most people balk or laugh at people who don't spray their vehicles. Well, I tried rolling and enjoy it. I also tried spraying part of the back of my cab today and did not like it at all. I like the control of the roller and having to sand it. I'm working on a faux finish as prep work for future airbrushed graphics with a small air brush. Once I finish it, I plan to have it clear coated by a body shop. Any suggestions and helpful tips will be appreciated. I'm on my fourth coat and sand with a block 220/350 grits if needed.

Welcome to Rolledon tom

A 74'semi-truck! have any pics?

Would love to see this one, going to be a great project thumbs up

Only thing I could add right now would be that , thats to aggressive sanding grit. Need something like 600-800-1000 and so on.

Have you read some of the others projects and there sanding techniques?

Sounds like a neat project, especially with airbrush graphics. Stang is right about the paper grit. Search a bit about sanding before you go any further, make life easier for your self.
WE LOVE PICTURES.
And welcome

Welcome. Good luck on the project. Airbrush is a tough task.
