1984 Hurst/Olds Painting with Olympic Oil Based Paint..

Post by 84HurstOlds on September 25th 2011, 9:55 pm

I had origionally started out painting this with Rustoeum "Alluminum" color paint.. I then found that it wasn't going to give me the results I was looking for because it wasn't gloss, and it was metallic, so I shopped around and found Olympic Oil Based paint, and had them mix it in a color that is actually closer to the color the car was originally! I have put 5 coats on so far, and plan on doing 3-5 more coats.. I have just done the top base coat, and plan on painting thr bottom in rustoleum gloss black.. I am mixing it at about the 60/40 ratio, and it is tutning out quite well! BTW: The pictures make the color look more white than a gray..

Here is a before pic:

Here is the Alluminum (It was actually looking great, just not glossy):

Here are current pics of the car, using the Olympic paint.. This is coat 5:

Thank you both! I am very satisfied with the paint job! Can't wait to finish! (It rained yesterday).. I am hoping to have it done by the end of the week! Since these pics, I have painted the black on the bottom with Rustoleum! It is looking VERY good!

Thanks Again!

Thank y'all! To be honest, it would look even better with a few more coats, but I was pretty tired of doing it, and I think it looks awesome now! I have amazed quite a few people, and may have talked my friend into letting me help him paint his '66 Mustang! I will start a new post when we start his car!

Thank you all for your support and help!

looks really good, same thing happened with my truck, just got sick of putting on coats, i just wound up driving it around for a few months and then put a final coat on and it looks great now, i would recommend not to leave it in the sun if you do not have wax on it because i saw some definite fade in my truck after about a month in a half of sunlight with no wax,

Thank you very much for the tip! I am just waiting the two weeks to let it harden so I can buff it, then I will be sure to keep wax on it! I will also use a car cover when I'm not driving it!

Thanks,
Joe
