Tig Welder.

Post by dean_af on October 11th 2011, 8:59 am

Sort of off topic?
I was at the welding supply place and the guy offered me a tank of Argon if I buy the Miller Diversion 180 this week. I already wanted the machine and I'm tempted. Problem is, I don't want a box sitting on my bench not used. I have read guys either love or hate a tig for body work. I plan on using it with Mig wire for filler. Anyone used Tig for body repair?

YES....I can't do it, it gets way to hot for the thin replacement panels. For thicker metal it's great once you get the hang of it. Aluminum is where it really shines.
For the stuff I do I can't justify the cost. I can do everything I need with my mig. If I need aluminum welded I'll bring it in to work and use one of the machines here.
Just out of curiosity what was the price on the Diversion 180.

That's my concern. Can I justify the cost? It's just over $1800 With the Golden Ticket Promo.

That looks like a great deal. I wish I didn't live in a subdivision.

the question is how easy can you get the consumables and how much are they. Most "off the beaten path" plasma cutters are junk.

I just noticed welding tips and tricks has one. He likes it better than the Miller. The Gun on the Everlast can be swapped for other guns so, consumables should be easy. The only thing I don't like about the Miller is that the gun is hardwired.
