MK1 GOLF Cabrio... Roll on RAL 2000 Orange

Post by Cabriopaul on January 7th 2012, 1:44 pm

Hay all Im Paul from Lancashire UK, Im currently undergoing a project to Roller Paint my MK1 Golf in RAL2000 (ORANGE) for that 70's look! as I can't afford to do It properly, but will give it my best shot!!

Bit of a shed right now!!

New alloys to referb when the paints done

Ill start with the boot seeing as its the wrong colour

Good rub down and clean

First coat on!!! looks like shite as I expected.. But thats the point.. after 10-12 coats it shound look sweet..
Using Rustoleum RAL 2000 with 25% white spirit to thin..

Thoughts?

I doubt i'd have had the confidence to do it if I had not found this website! Ive seen it done to high standards before.. But never done it..

I was'nt 100% about spraying, as my neighbours have expencive cars, and I doubt they like orange accents!!

Don't worry about "proper". Razz Any way you can get the paint on and look right is the proper way. I also laugh at the haters that say this isn't a "real" paint job. I always thought this type of paint was real paint, at least it was from the late 50s until the 90s anyway.

Out of this whole time painting my car I never thought of painting my badges, I think I might do that now. What silver are you using to paint the badges?

It's looking good! cheers

Definitely an old-school ('70s) color for a watercooled/front-wheel-drive VW. It will contrast nicely, to all of the black on the car.

Got to straighten out the accident damage on the rear drivers side. as you can see. it must have been knocked at some point as the light cluster does not sit right! This is on the start of a long list!

But hay, the cars road legal and I only paid 500 for it.. Lets see what the shows in the summer make of my cheapo paint job shall we?

Looks great. You couldn't have made a better color choice for that car. Orange body, black top and those wheels, it will be a real looker!

Post by Cabriopaul on January 12th 2012, 12:21 pm

The original wheels sucked, and because im skint I can't go buying 17'' BBS chrome split rims can I?? lol

Thats what I love about this forum.. Its not a 'whos got the fattest wallet' contest! like some other forums I'm on..

These alloys I got for 40 with good Perelli tyres on.. there scuffed so I plan on paining them?? do you think white alloys would go well, or just keep silver?

And don't wax the paint for at least a couple months. It needs to gas out.
