A few questions (answer one or all)

Post by Nonhog on January 9th 2012, 5:39 pm

I've tried to read up and just when I think I've got a grasp, I realize the thread is 6 years old. Very Happy

Questions
1) How important is temperature? as in applying paint.

2) Best way to remove a rolled on paint. (In case I buck up later for a BC/CC)

3) Would satin last or does it get chaulky.

thanks in advance!

Welcome to Rolled on.

1) Different temps will do different things. For example I like to roll when the temp is around 50-60 degrees, low humidity. Anything higher the 65 and high humidity I would get a lot of heavy orange peal making more work in the sanding stage. Now for my mix I add a hardener so that will speed up dry time a little, I also use enamel reducer instead of mineral spirits too. In my opinion lower the temp better the paint flows out. I would not paint in temps much lower then 50.

2) If you roll your car and don't use a hardener more then likely you will have to strip all of the rolled on paint off if you are going to spray it with regular auto paint. The reducers are very aggresive and they will lift yout Rusto paint like paint stripper.

3) If your satin paint has UV protection you should be ok

Hope this helps.

Yes it does thank you!
I read the Mopar (orange Charger) thread and he was talking about cold weather and it seemed odd. 50-60
is easy to come by in the Seattle area.

Will adding hardener also make it harder? I forgot my other question

4) Does it ever win the fingernail test? I never read every post on that thread well over a hundred post.

Hardener will make the paint rock hard just like automotive paint.
