Painting Rims / Wheels with Rustoleum

Post by LV2DRFT on January 17th 2012, 8:21 pm

Can it be done? I have stock alloy rims and was thinking since I'm buying all that black rustoleum... why not see if I can use it on the rims too? Would it work or is the aklyd enamel paint too brittle for a moving wheel? Has anybody ever tried this? Any advice?

I've used it (spray can) to paint several of my wheels. Just need to scuff them up real good first.

I used Tremclad gloss black on my alloys last year, the paint held up well aside from flaking near the edge of the rim near the tire. Because of this I would definitely recommend removing the tires if you can.

Give them a good scuffing first and degreasing first and you'd be alright.

I actually tried rolling at first but pooling was a problem on my rims due to their shape.
